Joy Ministries' Summer Reading Camp

 

Statistics show that more than 75% of those on welfare, 85% of unwed mothers, and 60% of prison inmates in America are illiterate. When you teach a child to read, you give them a ticket out of poverty.

Joy Ministries and Danette Crawford want to thank you for changing the lives of children throughout the Hampton Roads community by giving to Joy Ministries’ Summer Reading Camp. This year we had six camps across various subsidized neighborhoods, and God changed the lives and destiny of many young people and their families.

 

Genay, a young girl in one of our Summer Reading Camps had been
struggling academically when her mom signed her up for our camp.
Throughout the beginning of the camp, Genay kept saying “I can’t.”
To everything.  The camp teacher noticed that the girl
had some tendencies that indicated she had a learning disability.
During her time at camp Genay not only learned to read, but she
stopped saying “I can’t” and was able to read in front of all of the
parents at the reading camp graduation. At the ceremony, her mom
spoke in astonishment about Genay’s progress And, as a result,
asked the Lord to come into her life.

 

Through our reading camps, both children and parents are brought to salvation. At each graduation ceremony, Pastor Danette gave attendees an opportunity to recieve a personal relationship with the Lord. Each room was filled with hands raised to give their lives to the Lord.  God also used the camp to breathe new life and vision into each child!

 

After Pastor Danette gave a Word of the Lord to one young man,
he shared that he would like to be a police office, and another
young man said he has a call on his life to become a pastor.

Our desires is to continue to disciple the children and their families who have been touched through the Summer Reading Camp throughout the year.
