MOTHER'S DAY CELEBRATION

Every year we honor single mothers and widows who would normally go without the recognition that they deserve on their special day. The women are given a delicious meal with their children, a Mother’s Day gift and words of encouragement that last throughout the year. We bring in women from all walks of life. Women are bussed in from low-income housing areas, assisted living facilities, homeless shelters, and battered wives homes. We also have many single moms living in our local communities that attend every year. Normally Dad is the one who does something for Mom on her special day. When there is no dad in the home, mom usually goes without. We decided to change that for single moms and widows in our area. Thousands of single moms and fatherless children have been blessed since this outreach began in 2001

FIRST DAY CHALLENGE

That first day is such a challenge for children who don’t have the needed school supplies and school clothes. Every year, Joy Ministries seeks to make that “First Day” a good one for thousands of children who would normally go without. Each child receives a backpack filled with school supplies and words of encouragement to help them start the new year with confidence. SUMMER READING CAMP

One of the primary reasons children drop out of school is because they cannot read. With this program our kids not only read above grade level, they're excited about it. This fun, exciting 8 week course of intensive training is offered to children from low-income housing areas every summer.

Every year our children work very hard! Rev. Danette looks forward to the graduation ceremony where every child receives a trophy, books, a certificate of completion and a gift card for Back to School clothes.  For testimonies of what the Lord did at this year's Summer Reading Camp click here.

KIDS'S CLUB

A year ‘round outreach that meets weekly in low-income housing projects, Kid’s Club teaches children God’s Word through songs, crafts, games, small group discussions, and individual teachings of Bible stories. Character development is a primary goal. As we teach them God’s principles from His Word, their quality of life and chances for success greatly increase. We have well over 100 children that attend our Kid's Club each week.

BACK TO WORK

Single mothers and other low-income women who are currently working or are interviewing for employment are invited to go shopping for work clothes at no cost to them. This outreach not only provides them with professional clothes that they cannot afford themselves, but it increases their self-esteem as they wear their new outfits.

HOLIDAY OUTREACHES

We bless low-income families with Holiday meals, Santa Sacks and Angel Tree gifts. Hundreds of children wake up happy on Christmas morning because their parent or caregiver received a Santa Sack from Joy Ministries. We provide an all-you-can-eat holiday buffet for families in our adopted neighborhoods, and distribute turkeys to those in need. In addition, these children are taken Christmas shopping for their parent or caregiver.

DESTINY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

"This outreach of Joy Ministries was established in honor of my daughter Destiny.  As a single mom, I looked for assistance in
paying for a quality Christian education for her but found none.  Then the Lord spoke to my heart and encouraged me to take a step
of faith to be a blessing to others.  As a result, the Destiny Scholarship Fund was established.  Knowing that each of the children we work with has a 'destiny' for the Lord, I wanted them to have the opportunity to acheive academic excellence in a Christian environment.  Also, as the children from our 'adopted' neighborhoods get older, we will also be able to assist them with college expenses through this fund."

SINGLE MOM'S LIFE OUTREACH

Our Single Mom's Life Outreach has many facets. We have a single mom's LIFE group that meets in our outreach center on Friday evenings and is open to the public. Single mom's receive teaching on how to live victorious, successful lives in Christ. Teaching topics include dealing with loneliness, finances, and raising and disciplining children. There are also opportunities for new friendships to develop. We also have weekly Life Groups in our adopted neighborhoods. The Single Mom's Life Outreach assists single parents with rent, food, utilities, finding work, getting their drivers license, obtaining and maintaining a vehicle and many other life challenges. Financial counseling is also available through this outreach.

LIGHTHOUSE LEARNING CENTER

The Lighthouse Learning Center is an after-school homework assistance program for at risk children living in low- income housing areas. We have several Lighthouse Learning Centers meeting throughout our community, with certified teachers on our staff. The children we minister to are from homes in which the parent, for various reasons, is unable to help them with their homework. Some single parents are working three jobs just to provide for their children, some are not emotionally available for various reasons and some of them do not have the education themselves.
