Dear Friends & Partners,
God is an on time God! He is never late, yet rarely early. And God is always in control – even when it may not look like it. Maybe you are wondering what in the world is going on in your life. Well relax, the Lord is with you and He’ll bring you through whatever you are facing – just remember to keep first things first. Luke 3:21-22, says, “When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as He was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on Him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: ‘You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased’.” As He was praying! Prayer is the key. We need to keep first things first and prayer must be one of our top priorities. Prayer really does change things. As Jesus was praying the heavens opened. As we pray and get in the presence of the Lord, the heavens will be opened this year like never before. And, the Holy Spirit will come on us in power to do the Lord’s work! Keep first things first and don’t fall for distractions (even in our finances - keep first things first).
There is great power when you are focused. The enemy loves to distract you, because with distractions you lose your focus. If the enemy can distract you, it won’t be long before he can discourage you. And, if the enemy can discourage you, he’s one step closer to stopping you. If you stay discouraged, you will eventually want to give up and quit. But, if you never quit, and you never give up, you can never be defeated! Distract is defined as: to draw the mind away in another direction; to draw the thoughts in conflicting directions. Many distractions start with a simple thought or a few words spoken to you, about you, or by you. Don’t entertain or dwell on thoughts or words that don’t line up with God’s Word. Bring every thought captive – immediately! Keep your mind and thoughts focused on what God has told you to do and on what God is saying about your situation. There have been times when I would be in the middle of my day and all of the sudden I would feel a little discouraged. I would stop and think, now why am I feeling discouraged? I don’t have anything to be discouraged about! I was just having a great day!” Then the Lord would show me that “little feeling” of discouragement came from something negative that someone said to me or that little negative thought that popped into my head the hour before. The enemy tries to sow seeds through thoughts and words. Uproot those words and thoughts that don’t line up with what God and His Word says about you and your situation.
Be determined not to get distracted from getting in the Lord’s presence daily. When you are in the presence of God, you can hear clear direction and you are reminded of the promises of God. You see God’s view of things when you are in His presence. Have you ever noticed that as soon as you try to pray or read your Bible the phone rings, the kids start yelling, someone knocks at the door, or your mind begins to wander and you remember the other 25 things you need to get done before the day’s over? Don’t fall for distractions. Get in the presence of the Lord and don’t allow the enemy to distract you from your purpose! Luke 10:39-40 says, “She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, ‘Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me’!” Martha was having a pity party and she was ticked off at Mary because she felt like she was doing all the work. But, the Lord told Martha that Mary had chosen what was better! Don’t be busy, be fruitful. Your time is one of your most valuable assets, spend it wisely! Distractions will come, but it’s your reaction to the distractions that makes it or breaks it for you. Paul and Nehemiah faced many distractions, but their reactions to the distractions caused them to stay focused and fulfill the will of the Father. As I have been praying for you, I believe that many of you are discouraged. I believe that the root of your discouragement goes back to a distraction. Stay in the presence of the Lord daily and don’t get distracted from what God has told you to do. The greatest place of fulfillment is in the Lord’s presence, carrying out His purpose for your life. Ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you any possible distractions that you have fallen for and encourage yourself in the Lord. And then, go find someone else that you can encourage!
GOD BLESS YOU,
Danette
